A STRONG SAILING HISTORY AND A UNIQUE EVENT PUT ON HOLD

Since the start in 2004, Lysekil Women’s Match has hosted two official world championships and crowned 14 champions. The world’s top match race sailors such as Olympic medalists, world champions, Ocean Race sailors and national champions have over the years battled for a total prize pool of SEK 4.4 million. They have offered world-class sporting excitement that has been followed by hundreds of thousands of spectators sitting on the rocks around Kyrkviksbukten.

In addition to world-class sailing, holidaymakers have contributed to an action packed festival and enjoyed Sweden’s musical elite on stage in Havsbadsparken. Sailors, partners, volunteers and spectators can confirm the unique atmosphere that prevails in Lysekil during this unmissable summer event. Common are the joy, the summer and the sporting adventure!

We see that 2021 will continue to be marked by the pandemic and both sports and business life will continue to be affected in many different ways. The unpredictable situation means that we do not have the conditions required to stage a world-class international sailing event with its festivities in 2021.

Our intention is that Lysekil Women’s Match after the pandemic will continue to put the West Coast pearl on the map, be a driving force in international sailing and a festivity for our visitors as well as an attractive meeting spot and an innovative network for our partners and the business community.

None of us today fully knows how the pandemic will have affected us and what changes it will drive for our business. What we do know is that Lysekil Women’s Match will continue to be at the forefront and find new innovative solutions to raise the profile of our sport, our event and related issues.

Until we meet again, stay strong, take care of each other, whilst keeping your distance!
